Voya Life Journey
A modern tablet app to plan for retirement.
When ING became Voya Financial, it was critical to solidify their place in the market by introducing a new way to plan for retirement. I designed the Voya Life Journey tablet screens to be intuitive for insurance agents to use — to swipe through appealing visuals and simple tools to create scenarios and options for retirement planning.
Goals
Create reusable artifacts for inputs, charts, headlines
Incorporate a script view for agents to use to take them through the app
Balance speed and ease-of-use with useful and compelling data
Work with developers to understand and utilize Apple ios
Homescreen
Utilizing large touch areas to provide ease of use, along with Font Awesome icons to provide easy recall of functionality and navigation.
Call to Action
After going through the story with their client, the insurance agent can hand the tablet to them and have them fill out an application and submit it. We utilized digital signature software, so that this is a closed-loop system. No printing, signing and faxing needed.
Professional Presentation Support
Insurance agent view provides a script for them to use with their clients for a consistent and professional presentation. The script includes helpful notes on the context of the screen and how to present the information.
Colorful Donut Charts
Easy to understand charts are used to visually present key pieces of information to the chart — utilizing a palette of branded colors. The row of icons at the bottom, helps the agent recognize where they are in the presentation.
“With the quick inputs and immediate results, my clients have never been so excited to talk about their retirement planning.”
Summary
Translating complex financial information into a story format required the input of subject matter experts, insurance agents, marketing managers, and sales support personnel. Many rounds of rapid iteration were needed to find areas where clarity was needed, or simplification desired. In addition, the development team, being new to iOS, needed additional time and resources to understand unique programming considerations. Using an Agile team and robust product management allowed us to learn and make steady progress on our Happy Path to our successful soft launch.
